20th century

The applicant has to know these pieces from memory thoroughly. The candidate has to rehearse, conduct and correct a choir performing one piece from each of the above categories, chosen by the examination panel.

 

2. Singing

 

1 baroque or classical composed song or aria chosen by the candidate.

1 romantic, maybe 20th century composed song or aria chosen by the candidate.

1 composed song, or a folk song or an aria with piano accompaniment, chosen by the candidate.

 

The pieces have to be performed from memory, and in the original language. However, at least one piece in the Hungarian language has to be included in the program. A piano accompanist will be provided by the Liszt Academy.

 

3. Piano

 

 - J.S.Bach: 1 Prelude and Fugue from the Wohltemperiertes Klavier or 2 movements of a cyclic piece – fast and

                   slow

 - 1 movement of a classical sonata - Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven

 - 2 performance pieces – one should be by a Hungarian composer (Bartók or one of his contemporaries) 

 

4. Theory

 

  Written tasks

 

   Bass harmonization: harmonization of a bass line consisting of cca 10 tones and notation of the  chords by figures

 

   Analysis: formal analysis of an opening movement of a sonata from the stylistic circle of Haydn and Mozart piano

                 sonatas

 

   General musical studies:

   a/ recognizing 10 music pieces. Providing the name of the composer and the title, at least identification of the era,

       style and genre

   b/ Explanation and interpretation of 10 music terms, notions, titles, etc.

 

  Oral exam

 

    - Performance of two romantic songs of higher difficulty with own piano accompaniment, in the original text, from

   memory – with harmonic analysis if requested

    - Performance of two Three-part prelude fugues from Bach’s Wohltemperiertes Klavier, in singing-piano form –

   singing any voice while playing the two others – from scores.
