Admission requirements for MA studies - Piano

 

 

A concert programme of 45 minutes chosen by the candidate, consisting of 3 pieces of different styles.
The programme needs to consist of a Bach piece, a classical sonata, and a piece of the candicate’s choice.
The examination board has the right to stop the performance of the programme at any time during the examination.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

General Admission Requirements – MA

 

Written examination:


 Bass harmonisation: harmonisation of a bass line of cca. 10 notes, indication of the accords with figures.

 Analysis: formal analysis of the opening movement of a sonata from the stylistic circle of Haydn and Mozart piano

 sonatas.

 

 Exam in general music studies:


 a. Identification of 10 music pieces - possibly composer and title, but at least the epoch or style and identification or

     the genre.

b. Explanation and interpretation of 10 music terms, concepts, titles, etc.

 
Bartók presented an austere, forbidding front to the world and even in those years, when he was still in his mid-forties, his reputation was daunting. Although he had received little official recognition and was widely regarded as a raving radical, we music students knew exactly how important he was, and we revered him.
