Admission Requirements
1. Scales at a higher level (see requirements for BA entrance exam)
2. Two contrasting movements from one of the following: Bach Suites for Solo Cello: IV., V.,VI. or from Reger’s Suites for Solo Cello
3.
Two movements from one the following concertos:
-Haydn: Concerto in D major,
-Dvorak: Concerto in B minor,
-Schumann Concerto in A minor
OR
Tchaikovsky: Variations on a Rococo theme
Compulsory material in 2012:
Compulsory etude: Tündértánc (Dance of the Elves) by Popper
Compulsory piece: At the Fountain by Davidov OR D minor Scherzo by Klengel, and the latter can be downloaded from here:

General Admission Requirements – MA
Written examination:
Bass harmonisation: harmonisation of a bass line of cca. 10 notes, indication of the accords with figures.
Analysis: formal analysis of the opening movement of a sonata from the stylistic circle of Haydn and Mozart piano
sonatas.
Exam in general music studies:
a. Identification of 10 music pieces - possibly composer and title, but at least the epoch or style and identification or
the genre.
b. Explanation and interpretation of 10 music terms, concepts, titles, etc.
- 1. semester:
The repertoire covered can be chosen freely by the candidate based upon their interests (ex. Baroque genre) and/or based on repertoire needed for an international competition.
Candidate is expected to display good tone and intonnation, as well as posess thorough knowledge of the cello repertoire. The goal is for the candidates to be able to perform beyond the walls of the practice rooms and prepare for performances in a large concert hall (Leó Weiner’s teaching principle)
One must be able to perform fast passages expressively, with proper articulation, and accuracy. Playing the correct notes is not enough, the candidate must learn to perform the music.

Technical studies including Paul Tortelier studies or Flesch Scale Studies (cello).
