Admission requirements for MA studies - Organ

The two locations of the entrance examination in the academic year 2012/13 are the following:

First location: Old Academy of Music, Bach Room

- a a trio sonata by Bach, announced on 16 February (to be played from memory in its entirety):

J.S. Bach: Trio Sonata in E flat major BWV 525


Second location: Szent Ferenc sebei Church

- 1 modern organ piece, announced on 16 May
- a 80-120 minute programme of a wide variety of styles, from which the committee compiles a selection two weeks before the entrance examination, also announcing the place of the examination.

During the evaluation the following have an influence on the assessment:
- the recommended repertoire
- adequate handling of instruments of different styles (key-touch, playing position, registration)
- adaptation to locations of different acoustics

The applicants may practice weekly in June on the instruments at the locations of the examination.

 

 

General Admission Requirements – MA

 

Written examination:


 Bass harmonisation: harmonisation of a bass line of cca. 10 notes, indication of the accords with figures.

 Analysis: formal analysis of the opening movement of a sonata from the stylistic circle of Haydn and Mozart piano

 sonatas.

 

 Exam in general music studies:


a. Identification of 10 music pieces - possibly composer and title, but at least the epoch or style and identification or

     the genre.

b. Explanation and interpretation of 10 music terms, concepts, titles, etc.
